Sources are telling the New York Post that if the Lightning can’t find a suitable trade partner for Brad Richards than the Lightning may be forced to move Dan Boyle. It’s no secret that the Bolts are shopping Richards but he has a no-trade clause and needs to waive it in order for anything to work. Richards has previously stated that he would be willing to waive it if he feels it is in his best interests. Personally I would prefer the Lightning to take less for Richards and keep Boyle than move Boyle at all. The reason this has come up at all is Boyle is seeking somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-7 million a year in his contract extension talks and the Lightning need to free up some space (Richards has 3 years left on his 7.8 million dollar deal) in order to make that feasible. The defense has been the main problem on this team all season and if we lose Boyle you can pretty much cash it in. Smarten up Bolts, deal from strength to improve weakness, right?
